In recognition of National HIV Testing Day 2018, Bridging Access to Care along with our community partners Retro Fitness, Essentia Water and Untied Healthcare hosted its Annual Summer Street Jam on Wednesday, June 27th, from 10am – 4pm to highlight the importance of testing in detecting, treating, and preventing human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. Awareness of HIV infection through HIV testing is the first step to prevention, health care, and social services that improve quality of life for Brooklyn residents.
The HIV Testing Day Street Jam event offered residents free counseling and confidential testing for HIV, Hepatitis C, and other sexually transmitted infections, in addition to providing a variety of free condoms, prizes, games, Live Deejay, entertainment and much more. There were also opportunities to meet and speak with Medical Case Managers and HIV+ peers, educators and advocates to increase awareness of HIV in Flatbush/East Flatbush communities, provide individuals helpful information about sexual health safety, and learn about services of Bridging Access to Care for people living with HIV. The first 50 people who completed a rapid HIV test received a complimentary healthy smoothie or Juice courtesy of Retro Fitness Church Avenue Gym. Click for more info
